and fitness. This all started way back in 1984 when I was in junior high school and I wanted to bulk up

to play on the football team. My dad ended up buying me a pair of DP plastic dumbbells with the cement inside. From there I found a 4 foot board, two buckets and rigged me up my first weight bench.Since that day I have been working out consistently and through the years I have gone through bulking up phases and cutting phases. Name any type of bodybuilding product and I'll bet you I have tried it.

Through trial and error over the years I have come to find out that the majority of bodybuilding

supplements are just gimmicks the majority of which are backed up by animal studies and little science. With that said I want to save you all the trouble and money in letting you know that if you are just starting to work out or if you are a life-long gym rat such as myself there are only three key supplements that one needs to lay a solid foundation for consistent muscle growth. Do NOT be fooled such as I was for many years thinking that if I worked hard, got enough rest and ate properly that I would look like the steroid boyz on the bodybuilding magazine covers. NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! Unless you have Ronnie Coleman or Paul Dillet genetics..you ain't getting there as a natural weightlifter. The steroid boyz are on all types of gear which keeps their muscle protein synthesis cranked up 24/7.


Leucine - is the primary BCAA, and is the main amino acid that is responsible for muscle building.

               Leucine activates the protein called mTOR, which in turn activates muscle protein synthesis.


BCAAs - Branched Chain Amino Acids are the three amino acids comprised of leucine,isoleucine and

             valine that promote muscle growth and hypertrophy.


HMB -  Hydroxymethylbutyrate is an active metabolite of leucine that appears to have anti-catabolic

           properties that reduces muscle protein breakdown especially during 'fasted' training.


Protein Synthesis - Muscle protein synthesis refers to the rate of actual muscle fibers produced and

                            repaired after undergoing micro tears caused by intense weight training.


In conclusion as I jump into the supplement retail business the only three supplements that you will need to create a solid foundation for years of muscle growth are Leucine, HMB and BCAAs.
